Sunset in the grove at home, looking down towards the house and the valley below. The weather is warm now, and these days are hardworking with the renovations at the farm across town taking shape. The olive trees are healthy and well nourished after weeks of rain, the grass is lush, the flowers are blooming, and the sunsets are lovely. It’s all worth it.
We’ve done so much pruning and mulching at the farm that we can add this rich mulch to around the base of each olive tree, adding to the mixture of natural compost and manure that we laid down two months ago, which is part of our plan to extend the principles of regenerative organic farming that we use in our vegetable gardens to our management of the groves. We had a record harvest last year, and each year brings increasing challenges with climate change, so we’re thinking increasingly carefully, and deliberately, about how we run things.
