Soap makers in the Levant made olive oil and laurel hard soaps for thousands of years, and the ancient greeks based their own soaps on it, but it was more widely produced in Europe only in the 11th century following the crusades. It was made and exported in large quantity during the middle ages by the Crown of Castile, who dropped the hard-to-acquire laurel oil, and from where it gets its common name; Castile soap.
Olevo is proud to announce that we now produce a range of pure olive oil Castile soaps based on these ancient, traditional recipes and production techniques. Many modern Castile soaps are made with very little actual olive oil, but our soap is genuine, made with Olevo’s own biological extra virgin olive oil and nothing else, unless requested. It’s available now, but only on custom order, so talk to us about our Castile soap now!
